Diffusion - Five Miniatures

2022 . Duration: approx. 15 minutes

Diffusion is a nonlinear exploration of the journey and tension surrounding queer experiences before and after coming out. Turmoil captures the harmful, deceitful voices that affect queer individuals. Qualm embodies longing and fear to hope, in the middle of destabilizing echoes of doubt. Innermost reveals the intimate voice of identity. Momentum examines the proximity of truths and lies. Finally, Inertia reflects on the weight of oppression, the feeling of being trapped in a relentless motion — only altered by an external force. An external power of change. A community alike. An ally. A person who is coming out now, a person who came out years ago, or a person who is "inviting in". A courageous voice that speaks out about the truth of love as our ultimate goal of existence.

Performed by:

  • COPE, Madeline Hocking (Violin), Clara Cho (Cello), Andre Abel (Flute), Gabe Henkin (Clarinet), and Nacho Ojeda (Piano), at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on March 13th, 2025.
